Over the last two decades, a gradual deterioration of semen quality has been observed in industrialised societies. As a direct consequence of this, approximately 20% of couples experience difficulties when attempting to achieve pregnancy. Infertility, which is understood as a couple who attempt to conceive for at least one year without success, affects one in six couples. Studies show that the male is the cause of 50% of all consultations.
Male infertility can be caused by a range of factors, which include:
- Congenital disorders
- Hormonal imbalances
- Obesity
- Alcohol and drug abuse
For this reason, an accurate diagnosis is required to enable the treatment of the direct cause. In many cases, the appropriate treatment of male infertility is sufficiently effective for pregnancy to be achieved naturally.
The team of andrologists at the Serrate & Ribal Institute of Urology are tasked with investigating male infertility. Such analyses are required in cases where fertility disorders are suspected, or before the fertility of a couple has been confirmed. This type of analysis reveals the causes of infertility in a way that allows us to advise the patient and his partner of the prognosis and the best treatment to follow so pregnancy can be achieved naturally.
